Wilhelmina Baird

author, science fiction, cyberpunk, women

According to Interzone magazine, "Wilhelmina Baird is a pseudonym of British author Joyce Hutchinson." The information below came from the UK paperback edition of Crashcourse ... uncertain if it's fact or fiction.

Born 1935 in Dunfermline, Fife.

"Wilhelmina Baird was born in 1935 in Dunfermline, Fife, but was brought up in England. She took up teaching temporarily while she tried to finish her MA thesis. However, her Open University teaching continued, and the MA was sidelined. She describes herself as 'the classic taught-everything-everywhere-can't-stand-still guy'. She dabbled in writing short stories and thrillers but was published only when she retired from teaching. She is currently contemplating her sixth novel.

"Wilhelmina Baird lives in France with one and a half cats, her computer and the local taxes". [publisher's bumpf, Crashcourse , UK pbk, 1995]

"Although the bumpf in the british edition of Crashcourse implies 5 pre-existing novels, I am only aware of those I've listed under the name of Wilhelmina Baird. If anyone can inform me of the titles not listed in the library, please send details. Perhaps the other two are written under the name Joyce Hutchinson? Please clarify." --Henry W.Targowski.
