Remembering Rufus Camphausen (1948–2013), writer and illustrator.

Remembering through the archive

David Silverberg’s obituary for Digital Journal includes memories from Rufus’s wife Christina. It recalls his love of words, travel and photography, his Amsterdam bookshop, and his prolific contributions to the publication. His publisher also preserves an author profile and bibliography.

Bibliography: scope and editions

Fifteen documented publications, editions and contributions are listed below. They are not fifteen independent books: translations, a revised encyclopedia and two editions of a card deck are distinguished. Rufus’s name appears as Rufus C. Camphausen, Rufus Camphausen and R. C. Camphausen. Each title links to its supporting record.

This is a researched working bibliography, not a claim to a complete collected works. Publisher and library records take priority; specialist collection and bookseller records fill gaps for older editions. Dates describe the cited editions, not automatically the first appearance of a work.

Tarot: books and card editions

Contributions to another author’s work

  • 2000 · Eva Sawada: Magie der bloemen

Schors. Dutch. ISBN 9789063784485. 191 pages. De Slegte credits illustrations to R. C. Camphausen and C. Camphausen; photographs are credited to Christina. Listed here as a contribution, not a sole-authored Rufus book.

Journalism and the open archive

Digital Journal’s 2013 obituary records more than 320 contributions over four years. That body of reporting and photo essays belongs beside the books, but an item-by-item article bibliography has not yet been reconstructed. His former Yoniversum author page could not be retrieved during this research; it is not treated as a verified source for additional titles.

A further edition to clarify

Magie der Blumen (IRIS, 2001; ISBN 9789076274799) is listed in German book-trade records under Eva Sawada. Some biographical lists attach Rufus and Christina as coauthors, whereas the Dutch edition gives illustration credits. Until a title page or colophon settles the German credits, this remains a related edition with Rufus’s exact role unconfirmed.
